| Mr. Sub: Bad Choices |
| |
Here's the latest from Toronto's Zig (who I think need a new site - I was never a fan of that "tour guide" thing it opens with) for Mr. Sub. The "Bad Choices" campaign features three spots; Airport (my fav), Digging and Running. All three are directed by Partners' Joachim Back and I like how they are a bit dark for a fast food chain. Full credits are posted here.

| Lamato: the real social, social network |
| |
For all of you out there who do not live in Canada I'm going to explain something to you. The Bloody Caesar is one on the best drinks in the world and is an integral part of Canadian culture (and a freaking amazing hang over cure). It's basically a Bloody Mary but made with Clamato (Mott's tomato clam cocktail) instead of tomato juice. That said, Tribal DDB has launched Lamato - a spoof site on social networking sites and it's as great as a Caesar tastes (man I want one now). The scoop, YouTube links and full credits are posted here.

This UK Heinz ad was pulled from the air after numerous complaints were received. The decision has angered gay rights group Stonewall which is urging supporters to stop buying Heinz products. Read the full story here. Thanks to Dylan (Mr. Glossy) for the tip.

| Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase |
| |
I've heard that this showcase is one of the most popular events in Cannes and this year I was able to attend. From the dynamic opening to the great creative that was showcased, it did not disappoint (it did begin a little bit behind schedule though). A press release on this year's showcase is here and you can watch the full showcase here. Really great work, you should check it out.

| Massive Music Party |
| |
Massive Music puts on one hell of a party in Cannes and this year was no exception. The dance floor is always packed and, as it was on Wednesday night, the crowd has loads of energy (unlike at the end of the week). Thanks to Keith at Massive for putting me on the list (it was nice to meet you at the Carlton Keith). Some party pics are here.

The 10th annual cfp-e shots new directors showcase was held held in Cannes this past Wednesday. It was my second time at this show and there is always great work to be seen. I really enjoyed Willem Gerritsen's Religious which won first prize in the European spec category. A full story from shots, with a complete winners list, is here.

| In Korea you can use polygraph on your mobile phone |
| |
Wednesday at the Cannes Lions I attended a really interesting seminar, hosted by Cheil Worldwide Global Interactive ECD Andrew Berglundon, on a day in the life of an average young female consumer in Seoul and how they use and interact with brands via their mobile phones. Points of interest: the average young Korean consumer receives an average of 500 text messages a day; they like and interact with branded content (see AnyBand); there is a polygraph application available that can tell you if someone (who is calling you) is lying based on their speech patterns (popular with young women who use it to see if their boyfriends are cheating on them). Some pics from the seminar are here.

| Boards blog & party |
| |
So I think I'm still jet-lagged and drinking last night didn't help - I was only out until 2am and it's rude to turn away free champagne (thanks Crush). Last night I went to the Boards party and them to the gutter bar. Boards has set up a blog for Cannes and are posting what they are cleverly calling Cannes-did camera pics on their Flickr account. They are updating it daily with, I'm sure, incriminating photos of yourself and your colleagues. I have some pics from last night posted on Facebook here.

| Nagi Noda's Hair Hats |
| |
I'm a big fan of Nagi Noda and I was happy to stumble upon her Hair Hats on Computerlove. For those of you not familar with this Japanese artist/designer/director's work, check out all the goodies on her site - I really wish that the films played via quicktime or flash. One of my favourite spots of her is this film she did for French retailer Franc Franc. When I worked at shots I was busted getting misty while watching it (and I'm not ashamed to admit it).

| Crush & R.E.M. |
| |
So I heard my friends at Crush were all a little sleepy yesterday. R.E.M. was in Toronto for a concert on Sunday night and because Crush created their Hollow Man video, and are currently in production on R.E.M.'s next video, Michael Stipe and his manager had dinner with some of the Crush crew and invited all of Crush (all 15 of them) out to the show - with really great seats (so I'm told). When they played Hollow Man, Stipe gave a shout out to Crush, raised the lights on them and played the video while they performed the song. After the show drinking ensued until 3am. Stipe sounds a-okay to me.

Holiday Films has opened its doors in Toronto. Holiday is the creation of executive producers Josefina Nadurata (formerly of Reginald Pike) and Derek Sewell (formerly of Blink, Toronto). Their intimate roster of eight directors (Canadian representation) includes; Neil Abramson, Sorrel Ahlfeld, Scott Corbett, Georgie Greville, Kenan Moran, Aaron Ruell, Edward Schumacher and Craig Tanimoto. View a compilation reel of their director’s work here. Holiday Films is also seeking holiday images to showcase on their site (I've already submitted a couple). More info is on their About Us page. The scoop: Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand covered a busy Auckland street in gore to promote TV2's screening of Kill Bill, one of the bloodiest movies ever made. View the ad and credits here. Scooped from Bestadsontv.com who have recently redesigned their site and I think it looks amazing. Congratulations Michael and Kim.

This is beautiful, creepy and weird all at once. Kind of like the man who started the script - John Malkovich.
